What if it was true?

How to explain that fake news, gossip, political propaganda spread so easily while lying remains perceived as an unethical and reprehensible attitude?

According to a British study published in the journal of the American Psychological Association (APA), misinformation spreads when the person, either themselves or at the suggestion of a trier, introduces into their mind the notion that “it could be true”. He cheats on his wife? She embezzled millions? We are entering a new ice age? Regardless of the absurdity of the postulate, if we lead a person to say to himself “what if…one day…?”, the force of his imagination prevails over his ethics. The person then allows oneself to spread the message, and the lies spread.
