We often think our brains need to be young to excel, but things are more nuanced. Scientists at Ohio State University have discovered that brilliant and creative insights can occur when we are older. Their research focused on Nobel Prize winners in economics, although this has already been shown to be the case for other disciplines as well. According to the researchers, we experience two periods in our lives: around age 25 and around age 55. At the first peak, you don’t yet have much knowledge, but you are capable of unconventional thinking, you have an open mind, and you dare to question existing “truths.” Later, you have amassed a wealth of knowledge and are able to analyze and interpret it in new ways.
